Dental Inlays & Onlays New York

A Reliable Way to Restore Your Smile

If you haven’t heard about dental inlays and onlays, you’re not alone. Learn more about this tooth restoration procedure and how it can help you recreate a healthy smile.

What Are Dental Inlays and Onlays?

Dental inlay and onlays in New York lie somewhere between a filling and a crown. It involves a more complex process than a dental filling but proves less intensive than placing a permanent crown. This process makes an ideal option if you have one or more teeth that have too much damage for a filling but not enough damage to qualify for full dental crowns.

These types of restorative dentistry treatments use composite resin or porcelain to create a strong and natural-looking replacement for portions of broken, decaying, or otherwise damaged teeth. These options allow you to reclaim full biting and chewing functions and gain a more appealing smile.

Inlays are ideal for replacing decaying or damaged tooth areas within the central chewing surface of each tooth structure.

Onlays help repair one or more of the cusps, or biting points, of your teeth.

What To Expect at Your Dental Inlay/Onlay Appointment

The first step includes scheduling and attending your appointment with the Lux Smiles dental office in Gramercy Park. When you come in, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and discuss which option best suits your needs. We will also provide educational materials to help you better understand the procedure and your aftercare steps.

One of our skilled and gentle doctors will carefully numb the area and remove the cavity, crack, or damaged area from the affected tooth to prevent it from spreading. After completing this step, it’s time to make an impression of your teeth to create a perfect mold. This mold will go to our partner lab, where the trained technicians will custom shape and sculpt your inlay or onlay using composite material.

While you wait for the permanent restoration, we will place a temporary filling over the cleaned and prepared area of the tooth. After we receive your inlay or onlay from the lab, we will place and bond it to your tooth permanently before polishing it to perfection.

You may experience some minor and temporary discomfort following each appointment. Be sure to contact the Lux Smiles team if this discomfort continues or if you have any questions or concerns following your treatment.
