Invisalign® Is a Subtle, Comfortable Way to Achieve a Straighter Smile

Invisalign® trays are clear and nearly invisible during use.

If you have misaligned teeth or a gap in your smile, but want a discreet alternative to metal braces, consider Invisalign® at our Manhattan, New York, office. Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear plastic aligner trays instead of brackets and wires. The custom-made mouthpieces will gently and comfortably shift your teeth into place, usually in the same amount of time needed for traditional braces. At Lux Smiles, Jai H. Shin, D.D.S., will meticulously plan your treatment for the best results possible. The Invisalign® lab will also carefully craft your aligners so that they are comfortable and nearly invisible during use.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

Invisalign® can generally achieve the same effects as traditional braces, but the treatment is far more discreet. When you choose Invisalign®, we will provide a sequence of clear aligner trays. The aligners will exert a gentle force on your teeth and you will switch to a new set approximately every two weeks. Because each one will have a slightly different shape, the successive aligners will gradually shift your teeth over time. To ensure effective treatment, it is important to follow Dr. Shin’s instructions carefully. Most importantly, you will need to wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only to eat, brush your teeth, and clean the trays.

Planning Your Invisalign® Treatment

Invisalign® is a highly personalized treatment, since the trays are custom-made for each patient. To provide your aligners, Dr. Shin will take 3-D digital scans of your teeth. He will upload the images to a computer, where he can design your trays according to your exact needs. He will also explain the entire treatment, showing you the expected movement of your teeth over time.

Are You a Candidate for Invisalign®?

Invisalign® can correct a range of orthodontic issues. The treatment can even be suitable for widespread misalignment, along with relatively minor cosmetic concerns. Invisalign® may be right for you if you have:

  • Crooked or overlapping teeth
  • Gapped teeth
  • Tipped or rotated teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite
  • Crossbite

Invisalign® is suitable for both adults and teens. Nevertheless, to achieve the best possible results, you must be committed to your treatment. To promote better patience compliance, Dr. Shin offers the specialized Invisalign® Teen system which many of our younger patients find beneficial.

Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible and can easily be removed so you can continue to enjoy all your favorite foods.

Why Choose Invisalign®?

Our patients select Invisalign® for its range of benefits:

  • Subtlety: Invisalign® aligners are virtually invisible during use so you can speak and smile with confidence.
  • Comfort: Typically, patients find the trays are more comfortable than traditional braces. They will place less pressure on your teeth, and, unlike rough metal brackets, the aligners will not irritate the soft tissue inside of your mouth.
  • Convenience: Because Invisalign® trays are removable, you will not need to change your diet during the course of your treatment. Additionally, you will need to make fewer trips to our office, since Dr. Shin will not need to tighten your braces.
  • Improved oral health: After treatment, you could enjoy overall improved oral health. Misaligned teeth will no longer trap food and bacteria, increasing your risk for decay. If you previously suffered from bite problems, you will face a lower risk for bruxism and tooth erosion.
  • Aesthetics: Your straighter teeth will also have a huge impact on your overall appearance. Your smile could look bigger, brighter, and healthier. As a result, this could significantly boost your confidence.
